Working with Lawyers

Working collaboratively we can help families transform their future.  By targeting the cross-section of legal, family, political and emotional systems, we will offer a more complete service and provide more comprehensive support for our clients. Together we will help families transition to their American present.

Using my personal experiences as an immigrant woman and having survived the political turmoil in my country, I have been assisting people who have endured war/violence, complex trauma, and family dislocation for the past 20 years. I am an expert witness and consultant in legal matters involving questions of:

  • Trauma
  • Dislocation
  • Abuse
  • Victimization

Over the years I’ve worked with immigrants/refugees/asylum seekers in a wide range of settings: as Founder & Director-Program for Refugee Mental Health NGO - American Yugoslav Medical Society (AYMS); Senior Psychologist for Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Political Torture; Consultant for the United Nations Office for mental health; trained immigration officers on interviewing techniques.

In the past I have successfully worked with lawyers, helping them to integrate key legal issues and sensitive psychological issues, and thus providing effective testimonies for clients. My work includes:

  • Expert testimony
  • Report writing
  • Extreme and Exceptional Hardship
  • Dreamer and DACA
  • Political Asylum
  • Spousal Abuse
  • U Visas/ citizenship waivers
